JDR Details French Floating Wind Win

JDR Cables will supply, test and terminate the 66 kV export cable for the Leucate floating offshore wind project in France, the company revealed after news that it had secured the contract in a consortium with DEME’s SDI.

JDR will design and manufacture the dynamic and static cables to link the floating turbines with the shore, where they will connect to a grid at Saint-Laurent de la Salanque.

The cables will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Hartlepool, UK, in 2022 after which they will be shipped to France for installation.

SDI will undertake the overall delivery and installation of the cables.

“The floating offshore wind market is accelerating at a rapid pace. As waters get deeper, innovations in 66kV dynamic cables like ours will be required to meet demand . It’s an exciting time for the industry and subsea cable technology! ” said Wojtek Skoczylas , CSO at JDR Cables. “We’re delighted to have won this project and to be again working in close partnership with the DEME group, having collaborated on many previous projects.”

Located off the coast of the Leucate-Le Barcarès area, Leucate will feature three MHI Vestas V164-10.0 MW turbines in water depths of 65 to 80 meters.

The 30 MW floating offshore wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned in 2022.
