As the wind turbine installation is now picking up pace, foundation installation is still underway at the site some 89 kilometres north-east of Grimsby, where offshore construction started in early October 2020. The foundations are being installed by DEME’s Innovation and Cadeler’s Wind Orca .
Over the coming months, a new service operations vessel (SOV) will also join the project. Wind of Hope , which has been built in Turkey on behalf of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, is expected to arrive at the port in Grimsby this summer before heading off to the Hornsea Two offshore wind farm.
The 1.4 GW offshore wind farm, developed by Ørsted, will comprise 165 Siemens Gamesa 8.4 MW wind turbines, an offshore substation, and a reactive compensation station (RCS).
Once commissioned in 2022, Hornsea Two will become the largest operating wind farm in the world, taking the mantle from its sister project 1.2 GW Hornsea One.
