Saipem SA has signed a contract with Bladt Industries A/S to deliver transition pieces for the Calvados (Courseulles-sur-Mer) offshore wind farm in France.
Bladt Industries is in charge of the fabrication of 64 transition pieces specially designed for the French wind farm.
The fabrication is planned to start in August this year with loadout planned for late 2022. Each transition piece will have a height of 24 metres and a weight of approximately 500 tons.
Fabrication and loadout of all 64 transition pieces will take place at Bladt Industries’ production facilities in Aalborg, Denmark.
The Calvados offshore wind farm will consist of 64 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a total capacity of 450 MW and will be located 16 kilometres off the French coast in water depths ranging from 22 to 31 metres.
The wind farm will produce enough electricity to supply 630,000 people, which is more than 90 per cent of the people who live in the Calvados region.

Earlier this year, Eoliennes Offshore du Calvados (EODC) awarded Italy’s Saipem with an EUR 460 million contract to deliver the wind turbine foundations for the wind farm.
