EDF Renouvelables (EDF Renewables) has awarded contracts for geotechnical, geophysical and unexploded ordnance (UXO) surveys for an offshore wind site in the Bay of Biscay.
A consortium between Geotec SAS and Igeotest will carry out geotechnical survey in water depths of between 20 and 80 metres for site complementary characterisation, or as support to installation works.
The survey will involve cone penetration testing with a target investigation depth of between 3 to 30 metres below seabed.
For geophysical and UXO surveys, the offshore wind developer has awarded a contract to G-Tec.
G-Tec will provide geophysical survey in water depths of between 20 and 80 metres including approximately 200 kilometres of 2D UHR Multichannel Seismic data acquisition, as well as the associated data processing, interpretation and reporting. The targeted depth is 100 metres below seabed.
The contract has an option for the same services to be provided for an additional 100 kilometres of 2D UHR Multichannel Seismic data acquisition.
G-Tec’s contract also includes an option for an UXO survey on designated areas, including multibeam bathymetry, side scan sonar and gradiometer frame. The UXO work also involves data processing, interpretation and reporting, as well as issuance of UXO clearance certificates.
EDF Renewables currently has four offshore wind projects in France: Dunkirk, Fécamp, Courseulles-sur-mer, and Saint-Nazaire, with the latter located in the Bay of Biscay and now under construction . The company is also developing a 24 MW floating wind demonstration project in the French part of the Mediterranean Sea.
