Saipem has selected EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH to manufacture 64 monopile foundations at their Rostock site for the 450 MW Calvados offshore wind farm in Normandy, France.
The contract signing for the wind farm, also known as Courseulles-sur-Mer, took place at the beginning of April 2021.
In total, EEW SPC will process about 50,000 tonnes of steel into monopiles from the third quarter of the current year.
This is Saipem’s first ever monopile project, EEW SPC said.
“So far, we have successfully completed projects with Saipem that have mainly been in the offshore oil/gas and clad pipe sectors. We are proud that after excellent collaboration on the first offshore wind jacket project Formosa II, we are now in a position to realise the first monopile project for Saipem with Calvados offshore wind farm,” said Michael Hof , Managing Director of EEW Holding GmbH & Co. KG.
The Calvados offshore wind farm will comprise 64 Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 Direct Drive wind turbines installed more than 10 kilometres off the Bessin coast in water depths ranging from 22 to 31 metres. Siemens Gamesa will also service the wind turbines for a period of 15 years.
The transition pieces for the wind farm will be manufactured and delivered by Bladt Industries.
The project is being developed by the Eoliennes Offshore du Calvados (EODC) consortium of EDF Renewables, Enbridge, CPP Investments, and wpd.
The wind farm is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2024.
