Construction of the 100 MW Jeju Hanlim offshore wind farm in South Korea is expected to start in 2022, as the project has now entered design and construction phase.

This is according to Dutch consultancy Pondera, which was appointed to provide owner’s engineering services together with Korean engineering company Hanmi Global in 2019. The first (contracting) phase of owner’s engineering services for the project has now been completed.

This 100 MW offshore wind project is located in the northwestern part of Jeju Island and is the third offshore wind project in the Korean waters.

The consortium behind the project, Jeju Hanlim Offshore Wind Power, signed a turbine supply contract with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction earlier this month, under which Doosan Heavy will manufacture and deliver 18 of its 5.56 MW wind turbines.

The project consortium includes KEPCO, Korea Midland Power, Hyundai E&C and Korea Electric Power Technology, with Hyundai E&C, Korea Electric Power Technology and Korea Energy Technology set to build the 100 MW wind farm under an EPC contract.

Once completed in 2024, Jeju Hanlim will become the largest offshore wind farm in Korea.
