Vestas and Iberdrola have finalised the wind turbine supply contract for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in Germany.

The final contract follows the selection of MHI Vestas as the preferred supplier for the project in 2019 and the agreement Vestas signed this May following the takeover of MHI Vestas at the end of 2020.

The wind turbine supply contract is accompanied with a ten-year Service and Maintenance agreement for the 50 9.5 MW units Vestas will deliver.

The 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm will be built off the island of Rügen, in German waters of the Baltic Sea, at a site spanning 40 square kilometres. The project is expected to be completed in 2024.

Baltic Eagle is Vestas’ fourth offshore project in Germany, adding to the Borkum Riffgrund 2 and Deutsche Bucht projects which were delivered by the joint venture MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, the company said.

Just a few days ago, Vestas reported that it had secured a firm order for Parkwind’s first project in Germany , Arcadis Ost 1, which will also be the first to use a new floating installation method to erect the wind turbines. For the 257 MW offshore wind farm, also set to be built in the Baltic Sea, Vestas will supply 27 of its 9.5 MW units and service them under a 15-year O&M agreement.
