Offshore construction is in full swing at Ørsted’s 900 MW Changhua 1 and 2a wind farm off Changhua County, Taiwan .
The second of the two offshore substation jacket foundations has now been installed at the site.
The first substation jacket was installed by Heerema Marine Contractors’ (HMC) vessel Aegir in early May.
Ørsted has also announced that all of the 333 pin-piles for the wind farm’s three-legged turbine jacket foundations have now been manufactured.
The installation of the pin-piles is currently ongoing .
HMC is in charge of transporting and installiing the 111 turbine foundations and the accompanying pin-piles, as well as the project’s two offshore substations.
The company is also in charge of the onshore marshaling services, as well as the seabed preparations and scour protection.
The offshore construction at the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a sites will be carried out during 2021 and 2022, with the project expected to be fully up and running in 2022.
This year, the construction activities will include export and array cable laying, and installation of the offshore substations and foundations. Wind turbine installation is scheduled for next year.

The wind farm will comprise 111 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines installed in the Taiwan Strait, some 35 to 50 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County.
The 605 MW Greater Changhua 1 wind farm is owned by Ørsted (50 per cent), and a consortium comprising Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and the Taiwanese private equity fund, Cathay PE (50 per cent).
The 295 MW Changhua 2a is owned solely by Ørsted.
