RWE has signed a contract with the Danish software company Systematic for a marine management tool that the developer will deploy across its global fleet of offshore wind farms.

Under the contract, Systematic will supply its software, called SITE, to manage vessel and personnel information, as well as existing operational data from all of RWE’s offshore projects.

The new system, which has already been deployed on the company’s UK offshore wind farms Humber Gateway and Rampion, is being installed at RWE’s offshore wind projects in the UK first, with those in Germany, Denmark and Sweden to follow and with a view to expanding its use more widely in the future.

According to RWE, using the tool will optimise its offshore operations by ensuring working processes, induction and safety measures are consistent for both its operations and maintenance (O&M) teams and its contractors around the world.

RWE has several operational offshore wind farms across Europe, most of which are in the UK, with more under construction or under development.

In the UK, the developer is building the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm, which will soon be completed, and the 1.4 GW Sofia project which recently entered the construction phase.

Furthermore, four of RWE’s extension projects in the UK are already beginning public consultation: Gwynt y Môr, Galloper, Greater Gabbard and Rampion.

The company is also planning to develop projects with an installed capacity of 3 GW at two new offshore sites for which it was selected earlier this year in the Crown Estate’s Offshore Wind Round 4 seabed auction.

RWE said it aimed to invest EUR 5 billion net in renewable energy from 2020 until 2022 and to grow its global renewables portfolio to more than 13 GW of net capacity.
