CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. (CLP Power) has selected Ramboll as the owner’s technical engineer and advisor for the pre-development phase of their Hong Kong offshore wind farm off the coast of Sai Kung, Hong Kong.

CLP Power has started the preliminary engineering studies, collection of environmental data, and stakeholder communications for the proposed Hong Kong offshore wind farm as part of the ongoing feasibility study.

The potential offshore wind farm shall be located in the southeastern waters of Hong Kong and will consist of 17-31 wind turbines with a total capacity of approximately 250 MW.

In support of the Hong Kong government’s long-term decarbonisation strategy to achieve carbon neutrality before 2050, the wind farm will result in an annual CO2 reduction of more than 220,000 tons and cover the power consumption of approximately 140,000 households, Ramboll said.

Ramboll’s contract covers support to CLP Power in developing a robust project development strategy and schedule, as well as preliminary engineering services to develop the base case technical concept including preliminary wind farm layout, concept foundation design, electrical concept, and Transport & Installation concept.

“With our market-leading experience in design and development of offshore wind farms, as well as our long history of working in Asia, we are geared to handle all required aspects around the development of such an exciting project,” Ramboll’s Global Director for Offshore Wind, Tim Fischer , said.

”I am happy that we can make this know-how and experience available to CLP Power and support Hong Kong on their journey to achieve carbon neutrality.”

Ramboll has over the past years globally expanded its team working on offshore wind project development and advisory and is currently involved in owner’s engineering and development activities of more than 20 offshore wind farms worldwide, among them the development of Dominion’s 2.6 GW offshore wind farm off the coast of Virginia as well as Hofor’s two offshore wind farms off the coast of Copenhagen.
