Monopiles supplied by Haizea unloaded at Port of Taranto

The first shipment of monopiles for the 30 MW Taranto offshore wind farm has arrived at the Port of Taranto in Italy.

The ten-turbine project will, once completed, be the first offshore wind farm built in the Mediterranean.

The wind farm’s monopiles were manufactured by Spain’s Haizea Wind Group.

The installation of the foundations at the site in the Apulia Region off Taranto harbor is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2021.

Van Oord will deploy its installation vessel MPI Resolution to install the monopiles at water depths ranging from 3 to 18 metres.

The Taranto wind farm, also known as Beleolico, is being developed by the Italian company Renexia.

The wind farm is scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2022 and provide about 55,600 MWh of electricity per year, enough to meet the demand of around 18,500 households, Renexia said.
