The first wind turbine jacket foundation has been installed at the construction site of the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind project, being built by Ørsted in the Taiwan Strait, some 35 to 50 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County.
According to earlier information, Heerema Marine Contractors’ (HMC) vessel Aegir , which recently installed the two jackets for the project’s offshore substations, is also installing the 111 wind turbine foundations.
Several days ago, the first export cable for the 900 MW project was also laid, according to a social media update by Ørsted Taiwan .
The Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms will comprise a total of 111 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW turbines.
The offshore construction will be carried out during 2021 and 2022, with the project expected to be fully up and running in 2022.
This year, the construction activities will include export and array cable laying, and installation of the offshore substations and foundations. Wind turbine installation is scheduled for next year.
The 605 MW Greater Changhua 1 wind farm is owned by Ørsted (50 per cent), and a consortium comprising Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and the Taiwanese private equity fund, Cathay PE (50 per cent).
The 295 MW Changhua 2a is owned solely by Ørsted.
