Iberdrola has signed a lease agreement with the port of Sassnitz-Mukran for a new operations and maintenance (O&M) building that will serve the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm.
The developer, which already has an O&M base there for its Wikinger offshore wind farm, said that the agreement delivered another important milestone in the offshore wind farm’s construction schedule.
“I am very pleased that planning, operation and maintenance will again be carried out from the port of Mukran. This creates jobs on the island of Rügen and is an important contribution to the energy transition in Germany” , said the Prime Minister of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig , who chaired the signing ceremony.
The news on Baltic Eagle’s O&M base come several days after the developer announced the Danish Port of Roenne would be used for wind turbine installation.

The 476 MW project, Iberdrola’s second largest offshore wind farm in Germany, is located in the German Baltic Sea, 30 kilometres from the German island of Rügen.
Baltic Eagle will comprise 50 Vestas 9.5 MW wind turbines, which will be installed by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier on monopile foundations to be will be manufactured and delivered by EEW SPC and Windar and installed by Van Oord.
Scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2024, the offshore wind farm will supply renewable energy to 475,000 households, while saving nearly one million tons of CO2 emissions each year.
