Scotland-headquartered floating wind project developer Flotation Energy and Taiwan’s CSBC Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the two companies will join forces on developing floating offshore wind energy projects in Taiwan.

Flotation Energy, which was recently selected as a preferred bidder to develop its 100 MW Whitecross floating wind farm in the UK, has three projects under development in Taiwan.

The projects, planned to be installed off of the coast of Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City, include a demonstration project and two commercial floating wind farms which would together have an installed capacity of 1.2 GW.

The company plans to build the projects in three stages through the new tendering and development phases for which the Taiwanese government announced details last month.

Under their cooperation agreement, CSBC Corporation and Flotation Energy will promote the integration and development of the local supply chain in the design, manufacturing and assembly, installation, and operation and maintenance of floating wind turbines.

The agreement was signed on 1 September, during the 16th UK-Taiwan Renewable Energy Roundtable Meeting, co-hosted by the British Office and Bureau of Energy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which took placed in Taipei.
