Ems Maritime Offshore (EMO), Vestas, and Parkwind have signed lease agreements for an operations and maintenance (O&M) building in the Port of Sassnitz – Mukran for Parkwind’s Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm.
The building will see up to 40 professionals overseeing and maintaining the 257 MW project, located northeast of the island of Rügen in the German sector of the Baltic Sea, which reached financial close earlier this summer.
“The favourable location with the shortest distance to the wind farm, and a good logistical infrastructure make Sassnitz-Mukran the perfect base for the operation and maintenance of Arcadis Ost and other projects in the Baltic Sea region”, said Hauke Groeneveld , Head of Port & Logistics Services at EMO.
Parkwind reached financial close on the Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm, its first project in Germany, in June and ordered 27 Vestas 9.5 MW wind turbines for the project, together with a 15-year service deal with the wind turbine supplier.
The wind turbines will be erected using a dual crane vessel operated by Heerema Marine Contractors, which will enable a floating installation method , involving dynamic lifting and installation of all turbine components.
The 27 Vestas units will be installed on XXL monopiles fabricated by Steelwind and installed by DEME Offshore which will use its installation vessel Orion for the work.
DEME will also install the substation’s monopile foundation, with Bladt Industries contracted to deliver the offshore substation.
Offshore installation works on Arcadis Ost 1 are scheduled to begin in 2022 and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2023, from when it It will be generating enough clean electricity to power up to 290,000 households.
