Ørsted Wind Power A/S has awarded Pulse Structural Monitoring Ltd. with a contract to provide structural measurement campaigns for Gode Wind 03 and Borkum Riffgrund 03 offshore wind farms.

Pulse will be in charge of the load, corrosion, and inclination measurement campaigns for Borkum Riffgrund 03 wind farm and Gode Wind 03 wind farm foundations and wind turbine generators, including maintenance of the measurement system throughout the planned measurement period.

Pulse will also work on the vibration measurement system for the Gode Wind 03 offshore substation, including maintenance of the measurement system throughout the planned measurement period.

Optional extra work covered by the contract is bolt measurement campaign for Borkum Riffgrund 03 and Gode Wind 03 foundations and wind turbine generators, supply and installation of one or two extra measurement switch box and installing inclinometers offshore on one or two additional positions, as well as commissioning of the inclination measurement system for Borkum Riffgrund 03 foundations and wind turbine generators.

For the Gode Wind 03 offshore substation, extra work may also include an option for the supply of sensor cables for the accelerometers that constitute the vibration measurement system and supply power and network cables for the system and to install onshore and commission offshore the vibration measurement system and prepare all relevant documentation.

In April, Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted planning approval to Ørsted for the 242 MW Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm, whose construction will be carried out in parallel with the 900 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 project.

Gode Wind 3 will have a total of 242 MW of export capacity. The wind farm will feature 23 Siemens Gamesa turbines with a nominal output of 11 MW and a rotor diameter of 200 metres.

With 83 turbines and a total capacity of 900 MW, Borkum Riffgrund 3 will be one of the largest wind farms in German waters. The wind farm will be connected to TenneT’s DolWin 5 offshore grid connection system.

Borkum Riffgrund 3 will not feature an offshore substation as the wind turbines will be connected directly to the DolWin epsilon platform via 66 kV cables.

The development area for Gode Wind 3 wind farm is located about 32 kilometres from the island of Norderney in Cluster 3 within the German North Sea exclusive economic zone (EEZ), while Borkum Riffgrund 3 is to be built in the Borkum cluster, close to Riffgrund 1 and 2 wind farms.

Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 will be built without subsidies and are expected to be commissioned by 2025.
