Chantiers de l’Atlantique to Build Gode Wind 3 Offshore Substation

Ørsted and Atlantique Offshore Energy, a subsidiary of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, have held a steel cutting ceremony for the Gode Wind 3 offshore substation in Saint-Nazaire, France.

Back in February, Ørsted placed an order at Atlantique Offshore Energy for the full engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the substation, including the topside and the modular support frame.

The substation is scheduled to be installed in the German North Sea in 2023, subject to Ørsted’s final investment decision, which is expected by the end of this year.

The 242 MW substation, entirely designed and fabricated in Saint-Nazaire, will collect and export the power generated by the 23 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW offshore wind turbines through dedicated submarine cables, while remotely controlling and monitoring the operation of the offshore wind farm.

The development area for Gode Wind 3 is located about 32 kilometers from the island of Norderney in Cluster 3 within the German North Sea exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Gode Wind 3 is expected to go into full commercial operation in 2024.
