The transmission assets of the Rampion offshore wind farm in the UK have been sold to Transmission Capital Partners (TCP), a consortium comprising International Public Partnerships Limited, Amber Infrastructure Group, and Transmission Investment .

The assets now owned by TCP comprise Rampion’s offshore and onshore substations, and offshore and onshore export cables.

The sale follows the selection Ofgem’s selection of Transmission Capital Partners as the preferred bidder for the Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) licence for the Rampion wind farm as part of a competitive tender process held in 2019.

TCP was also chosen as the preferred bidder for the transmission assets of the Beatrice offshore wind farm the same year and signed a purchase agreement for those assets in August of this year.

The divestment of transmission assets is mandatory under UK legislation and takes place in accordance with the OFTO regime.

The 400 MW Rampion offshore wind farm is owned by RWE (50.1 per cent) Macquarie (25 per cent), and Enbridge Rampion UK Ltd, a subsidiary of Enbridge (24.9 per cent). RWE Renewables operates the wind farm on behalf of the project partners.

Located 13-20 kilometres off the Sussex coast and featuring 116 Vestas 3.45 MW wind turbines, Rampion was fully commissioned in 2018.

At the beginning of this year, RWE reported that the offshore wind farm had exceeded its power generation target in 2020 by generating over 1,600 GWh during the year, 15 per cent more than the assumed annual generation of 1,400 GWh.
