ABB has secured an order of around USD 27 million (approximately EUR 23.6 million) to supply Eneti’s two newbuild wind turbine installation vessels (WTIV) with power, automation, and control systems.
For the two wind turbine installation vessels, which the South Korean shipyard Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) will deliver to Eneti in 2024 and 2025, ABB will deliver a hybrid battery solution for enhanced sustainability of operations, including also energy recovery from vessel operations.
The company received the first order in the third quarter of 2021 and the second one at the beginning of this year.
Under the contracts for the two vessels, ABB will deliver power, automation and control systems, real-time performance analytics, and an electric propulsion system, and will integrate a hybrid battery power solution to increase operational safety and flexibility while cutting emissions, according to the company.
“The Eneti ‘seal of approval‘ acknowledges their preference for our sustainable hybrid propulsion technology and extensive experience with dynamically positioned (DP) vessels, and WTIVs in particular. ” said Rune Braastad , Business Line Manager, Marine Systems, ABB Marine & Ports.
In May 2021, Eneti entered into a binding agreement with DSME for the construction of one USD 330 million WTIV with an option to construct an additional vessel at the same price. The WTIV, designed by GustoMSC, includes a 2,600 Ton Leg Encircling Crane from Huisman.
A couple of months ago, Eneti exercised an option with DSME for the construction of the second WTIV.
The two jack-ups will be capable of installing up to 20 MW turbines at depths of up to 65 metres of water, and will be adapted to operate on the alternate fuels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) or Ammonia, Eneti said.
