Pacifico Energy to Deploy Two EOLOS Floating LiDARs Offshore South Korea

EOLOS has secured a multi-buoy supply contract with Korean-based company Pacifico Energy for the simultaneous deployment of two FLS200 floating LiDAR devices in South Korea.

Pacifico Energy, which recently closed an agreement with SSE Renewable for a joint ownership company SSE Pacifico to pursue development of offshore wind projects in Japan, has signed a one-year turn-key campaign with options for a third buoy and extensions to the term.

Under the contract, these devices will conduct specific wind resources and metocean measurements for a development offshore South Korea, while the measuring campaign is scheduled for April 2022.

The floating LiDAR supply contract with EOLOS is the first of its kind by Pacifico in Korea, while the deployments will add to EOLOS existing fleet operating in that area.

“The familiarity EOLOS has with local project execution procedures and permitting in Korea, attracts a wide base of developers both internationally and regionally,” said Julian Harland , Sales Director at EOLOS.

In 2020, EOLOS deployed its floating LiDAR device some 60 kilometres off the coast of Ulsan in South Korea, as part of a measurement campaign for an offshore wind project being developed by Shell and CoensHexicon. For the Spanish company, this deployment marked its first project in South Korea.

The same year, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) installed a floating LiDAR off South Korea as part of offshore wind project development. Prior to that, Equinor deployed two floating LiDARs off Ulsan as well to investigate the possibility of developing and constructing a floating wind project.
