Singapore-based marine and offshore engineering group Sembcorp Marine has manufactured the 15 wind turbine jacket foundations for the 376 MW Formosa 2 wind project offshore Taiwan.
Five jacket foundations have since sailed away with the remaining awaiting client’s vessel availability, Sembcorp Marine said.
Jan De Nul, the EPCI contractor for the project’s foundations and subsea cables, selected Sembcorp to deliver 15 jackets and Saipem to deliver the remaining 32 jacket foundations for the wind farm back in 2019.
The delivery of the 15 jackets manufactured by Sembcorp was initially scheduled to be completed by December 2020.
EEW SPC was selected to manufacture and deliver the accompanying pin piles for the wind farm’s jackets.
All of the jacket components for the project will be manufactured in Asia, and the foundations will be installed by Seaway 7.
Formosa 2 will comprise 47 Siemens 8 MW turbines installed in water depths of up to 55 metres. The wind farm is being developed offshore Miaoli County on the West coast of Taiwan by a partnership between JERA, Macquarie’s Green Investment Group, and Swancor Renewable Energy.
Jan De Nul started the construction work on the project in June 2020. The wind farm was initially scheduled to be commissioned by late 2021.
