Keppel Taps Worley for Offshore Wind Work

Australian engineering company Worley has won a contract by Singapore’s Keppel Offshore & Marine to provide engineering services for the construction of two offshore substation platforms for a wind farm project.

Under the contract, Worley will provide detailed design engineering services and procurement and fabrication support for the two offshore substation topsides modules.

Earlier this year, Worley completed topsides optimization studies to reduce the size and weight of the substation modules to minimize expenditure during the fabrication and installation phases.

The company will now continue to the next phase of the project, which is scheduled to be fully operational by 2025.

Worley added that the project will benefit from a significant digital element. The second offshore substation will be a replication of the first by using digital replication and 3D model technology. This is described as a more sustainable way of designing assets by saving on time and resources.

The company will deliver the project in cooperation with its Offshore Wind Center of Excellence in Europe.

”Being part of a project that supports the energy transition through the development of new energy practices aligns with our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world,” said Rob Langford , Senior Director Offshore Wind US.

”This contract add s to our portfolio of offshore substation projects and by working with Keppel, it defines that global supply chain collaboration is paving the way for the future of the energy industry.”

Back in November 2021, Keppel Offshore & Marine won a SGD 110 million (around EUR 71.6 million) contract to build two offshore substation topsides for an undisclosed client.

Keppel O&M’s work scope comprises the engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning for the topside modules of the two offshore substations.
