Sembcorp Marine Wins Wind Turbine Installation Vessel Contract

Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine has won a contract for the construction of a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) based on the company’s in-house design in collaboration with an unidentified customer.

The WTIV project, secured through the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters Pte Ltd, is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.

Sembcorp Marine said that the company collaborated with the customer intensively over two years providing design development and verification work.

The WTIV will be capable of operating at a high level of efficiency and handling the next generation of wind turbines which are scaled up in size with longer, lighter rotor blades, taller towers, more reliable drivetrains, performance-optimising control systems, and multi-megawatt power generation, Sembcorp Marine said.

”We are grateful for the confidence our customer has placed with Sembcorp Marine to bring this breakthrough WTIV design to the offshore wind market. The Group looks forward to continuing the close collaboration with our customer to execute this project and contribute to the pace of energy transition,” Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters Senior Vice President, Wong Teck Cheong , said.

This contract is said to strengthen Sembcorp Marine’s position in the renewable energy segment and validate the company’s strategy to transform itself into an innovative engineering solutions provider in the offshore, marine, and energy industries, with a strategic focus on sustainability.

Sembcorp Marine President & CEO, Wong Weng Sun , said: ”This is another monumental step for the offshore wind industry. Sembcorp Marine is pleased to support the world’s energy transition with its innovative products and to collaborate with its customers to contribute to a more sustainable and greener future.”
