Located approximately 15 miles from the offshore wind blocks south of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Islands, the New Bedford Foss Marine Terminal is expected to open in March 2023, after a year of site redevelopment.
The new terminal will provide storage and laydown yards for equipment and materials, berth facilities for tug and barge operations, and host crew transfer vessel (CTV) and service operation vessel (SOV) support services.
The terminal will also offer new office space for project teams and a marine coordination centre for technicians involved in offshore wind projects.
“The New Bedford Foss Marine Terminal is perfectly situated to support offshore wind projects on the East Coast,” said Jason Childs , President and CEO of Saltchuk Marine, parent company to Foss Maritime.
The Port of New Bedford is also home to the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal.
Last year, the Massachusetts government unveiled its plan to invest USD 100 million from federal COVID relief funding in critical port infrastructure to support offshore wind development.
The announcement was made by Governor Charlie Baker during a visit to the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal.
Constructed and operated by MassCEC, the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal is a 29-acre heavy-lift facility designed to support the construction, assembly, and deployment of offshore wind projects.
