Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has announced that it will manufacture blades for V174-9.5 MW wind turbine at its factory in Newport on the Isle of Wight, UK .
According to the company, the V174-9.5 MW turbine blade marks a new manufacturing line at Isle of Wight, which will support turbine deliveries to a European offshore wind project, while adding to existing manufacturing capacity in Denmark and Taiwan.
Vestas currently has two European projects using this technology in the pipeline, the Arcadis Ost 1 and the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, both located in the German Baltic Sea.
Last year, Vestas secured an order to deliver 27 of its V174-9.5 MW units for Parkwind’s Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm, which is scheduled to be fully operational in 2023. The wind turbine supplier has also signed a 15-year service agreement for Arcadis Ost 1.
That same year, the company signed another contract with Iberdrola for the supply of 50 units of Vestas’s V174-9.5 MW wind turbine model for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, which was accompanied by a 10-year Service and Maintenance agreement as well.

The 476 MW project is expected to be up and running in 2024.

The production of the blades for the V174-9.5 MW model will start at the end of the second quarter of 2022.
Currently, the Isle of Wight factory produces V164 turbine blades and has delivered over 1,000 blades to North European markets, including more than GBP 360 million (approximately EUR 432 million) worth of exports since 2014, the company commented.
