China’s first gigawatt-scale offshore wind farm, the 2 GW Three Gorges Yangjiang Shapa, has produced 1 terawatt-hour of electricity in the first three months since the full commissioning.
Back in December 2021, China Three Gorges fully connected three offshore wind projects to the Chinese grid, including the Three Gorges Yangjiang Shapa offshore wind farm.
The other two were the 1.1 GW Jiangsu Rudong and the 300 MW Jiangsu Dafeng H8-2 offshore wind farm.
Located in the sea area of Shapa Town, Yangjiang city, Guangdong province, the project comprises 315 offshore wind turbines, four offshore substations, and nearly 1,000 kilometres of submarine cables.
The wind farm is also the first in the world to feature a floating wind turbine connected to a fixed-bottom turbine.

In July 2021, CTG announced that its Shapa offshore wind project , having a total of five phases, had surpassed an installed capacity of 1 GW, making it China’s first gigawatt-range offshore wind farm.
The project’s phases two to five were under construction simultaneously since the beginning of 2020.
The Yangjiang Shapa Phase 2 offshore wind farm went into full operation in November last year, two years after its predecessor, Yangjiang Shapa Phase 1, delivered its first power .
