Norway: Kongsberg Maritime Acquires InTurbine

Kongsberg Maritime (KM) has won two contracts, one with Integrated Wind Solutions (IWS) to supply two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) with integrated equipment solution, and the other with Sembcorp Marine to supply the Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) with comprehensive technology package.

Under the contract with IWS, KM will supply CSOVs with an integrated equipment solution that includes permanent magnet azimuth thrusters, generators, electrical systems, a fully integrated bridge with navigation, dynamic positioning (DP) and automation systems, deck machinery equipment, and control systems.

Both vessels ordered by IWS are slated for delivery in the first half of 2024.

IWS already has the two identical vessels on order for delivery in 2023, and option agreements for up to two additional vessels, making this a potential six-vessel series.

According to KM, this fleet has been designed specifically for the renewable offshore wind market, with a clear focus on reduced emissions and enhanced sustainability.

The first of the two, IWS Skywalker , secured charter contracts with Dogger Bank Wind Farm in June last year for Dogger Bank A & B.

The vessels will be built to Kongsberg Maritime’s UT 5519 DE design by the CMHI shipyard.

In June 2021, KM won contracts to design and equip the first two CSOVs for the company which was then called Awind.

Contract with Sembcorp Maritime

Under the contract with Sembcorp, KM will be the supplier of the complete electrical system and the integrated control system for the WTIV.

The WTIV is constructed by Sembcorp for the Denmark-based service provider Maersk Supply Service and is expected to be delivered in 2025.
