Seawind Ocean Technology has announced a collaboration with Singapore-based SeaTech Solutions International on the design of semi-submersible floating platforms.
Under the agreement, SeaTech will provide Seawind with the basic design of the semi-submersible floating platform according to international standards and specifications.
Upon finalising the basic draft, SeaTech will then provide a full design package of the semi-submersible floating platforms, which will include the detailed design, 3D modelling, and the full set of construction drawings.
The semi-submersible floating platforms are a key component in Seawind’s integrated approach to manufacturing the concrete floating foundations and subsequently lift and assemble the tower, the nacelle, and the blades of its floating offshore units, the company said.
Seawind has developed proprietary two-bladed floating wind turbines integrated with a concrete floating structure suitable for installation in all seas, including cyclonic regions and ultra-deep waters.
At the beginning of this year, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petrofac, under which the two will collaborate on the delivery of early floating offshore wind plant concessions, initially in the Mediterranean Sea and subsequently in other European and global locations, as well as work towards the electrification of other offshore energy assets.
The agreement will see Petrofac supporting design verification of the system and providing project management/EPCM services in connection with the company’s first 6.2 MW floating offshore wind turbine demonstrator, which is due for deployment in European waters in 2024.
The Netherlands-based Seawind said on 15 April that it had started obtaining the necessary permits for a turbine production and assembly facility in a port area in Italy, where the first newly designed semi-submersible floating platform is expected to be deployed and commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2024.
