Vestas has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte to support the development of wind projects off the state’s coast.
The objective of the MoU, signed in March, is to share technical knowledge so that governmental institutions can improve their studies of feasibility of implementing a port-industry approach in Rio Grande do Norte to support the development and operation of offshore wind projects, a spokesperson from Vestas told offshoreWIND.biz.
Rio Grande do Norte is one of the six states for which Shell announced its offshore wind plans last month. Planned to be built off the coast of Galinhos, Shell’s project in Rio Grande do Norte could have 3 GW of installed offshore wind capacity.
Last year, the state’s government also entered into an agreement with Enterprize Energy to identify and develop opportunities for offshore wind, green hydrogen, and green ammonia projects off the country’s northern coastline.
In August 2021, Enterprize Energy said the state of Rio Grande do Norte was the leading Brazilian state in renewable energy development, with over two-thirds of its energy generation originating from renewable sources.
