Edda Wind’s Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) Edda Breeze has sailed out to perform sea trials, said Astilleros Gondán S.A, the Spanish shipyard that built the vessel.

The CSOV, the first of five vessels Astilleros Gondán S.A is building for Edda Wind, left the Eo estuary this weekend for the Port of Gijón, where it will remain for the next few weeks to complete its sea trials programme.

The vessel has a length of 88.3 metres and a beam of 19.7 metres. Designed by Salt Ship Design, Edda Breeze is featuring a propulsion system that allows for the future installation of zero-emission hydrogen technology.

According to Gondán, the preparations for future zero-emission propulsion systems were funded by the Norwegian government enterprise Enova SF.

Edda Breeze will feature automated equipment including a 3D motion-compensated crane, a motion-compensated gangway with a maximum range of 28 metres, and an integrated elevator with a capacity for up to 26 persons.

With an accommodation capacity of 120 people (93 technicians and 27 crew members), the vessel will support the charterer Ocean Breeze during its operation at BARD 1 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The charter agreement with Ocean Breeze , the operator of BARD 1 offshore wind farm, started in the second quarter of 2021 and was signed for a period of eleven years.
