The Spanish Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) has awarded EOLOS Floating LiDAR Solutions two research and development (R&D) projects designed to advance wind, metocean, and environmental measurement technologies, and digital services for the offshore wind industry.

The first award, which is part of the Spanish R&D national programme, will support the research and innovation around EOLOS’s FLS200 buoy, including the development of new measurement capabilities for wind vertical LiDARs, meteocean systems, and environmental sensors with the focus on improving added value data which could reduce uncertainty and provide information relevant to the development and optimisation of future offshore wind farms, said EOLOS.

The second award is a project that will be developed in partnership with German-based Sowento and the University of Stuttgart as part of the European Eurostar’s Eureka programme.

According to EOLOS, the project is about developing a new LiDAR floating modular system to achieve the most accurate wind flow reconstruction in terms of the wind field, turbulence intensity, and vertical shear.

Last month, the Spanish company announced that its FLS200 buoy achieved Stage 3 under the Carbon Trust Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) Roadmap for the commercial acceptance of floating LiDAR technology.

“After obtaining the highest commercial maturity, known as Stage 3 by Carbon Trust, these awards reinforce our R&D activity as a key vector to improve our technology and bring to our customers high-quality data and intelligence to enable offshore wind farm developers and owners in reducing wind energy costs by data-driven decisions,” said Rajai Aghabi , CEO of EOLOS.
