Moray West Says Show Must Go On

The UAE-based offshore construction and fabrication specialist Lamprel l has selected OES Group to supply the monopile foundations of the Moray West offshore wind farm with the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system.

Remotely controlled and monitored through the OES’s SCADA system, the ICCP system includes protection from the external and internal areas of the monopile.

According to the company, the system will be strategically placed for complete protection and will also feature reference electrodes.

All ICCP anodes will be manufactured in OES’s North East facility offering UK local content to the project.

Pre-work has already begun, with first deliveries scheduled to begin in autumn to Lamprell’s UAE yard.

The foundations of the 850 MW offshore wind farm will be protected against corrosion for 30 years, said the company.

A couple of months ago, Lamprell signed a capacity reservation agreement with Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, for the Moray West offshore wind project.

The reservation agreement secured capacity in Lamprell’s Hamriyah yard for the supply of 62 transition pieces, including 60 wind turbine transition pieces and two transition pieces for the two offshore substations, as well as for the shipping of the 62 transition pieces to a marshalling harbour in the UK.

Located off the northeast coast of Scotland, the Moray West offshore wind farm will comprise up to 85 wind turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa and is expected to produce its first power in 2024.
