Belgium-headquartered Sarens and UK-based PSG Marine & Logistics Ltd have formed a joint venture (JV) to support both the bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind projects with heavy lifting, transportation, and logistics services from the Port of Cromarty Firth.

“We are extremely pleased to form this joint venture with the reference player in global heavy lift and transport. Having access to Sarens market leading heavy crane & SPMT fleet, engineering capability and the Sarens giant ring crane fleet, will enable Sarens PSG to provide clients with the most comprehensive offering of heavy lift, transport, assembly, load in / out and port marshalling services currently available in Scotland” , said Steve Clark , Sarens PSG’s Managing Director.

Deep water facilities at Invergordon and the Cromarty Firth, where PSG Marine & Logistics is based, are ideally located for project execution in the Scottish offshore wind sector, according to Clark, who further added that the JV was also looking for opportunities at all the marshalling facilities around Scotland.

“Sarens PSG has been specifically incorporated to support the rapidly developing offshore wind market and assist in solving some of the current issues around heavy lift capacity, deployment and WTG integration, as the Scottish market scales up to floating wind commercialisation and the Scotwind project build-out “, Steve Clark said.

At the beginning of this year, Scotland awarded seabed lease rights to 17 offshore wind projects totalling almost 25 GW in capacity, well beyond the expected 10 GW, whereas half of this massive capacity is coming from floating wind farms.

PSG previously worked on a number of projects in the UK, including Moray East offshore wind farm and Kincardine floating project in Scotland.

Sarens was assigned with the salvage of the damaged components of Liebherr’s HCL 295000 crane on board the Orion vessel, whose hook broke in May 2020.
