The Navantia-Windar consortium has started loading out of the first jacket foundations for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm and will soon send them to France from Navantia’s yard in Fene, Spain.
The first shipment for the French project will contain four jackets of the total of 62 that the Spanish companies will deliver for the project under a contract awarded by their compatriot, the wind farm developer Iberdrola.
The companies have already delivered all 186 piles for the project and will deliver all the 75-metre, 1,150-tonne jackets this year.
This April, Navantia announced that it had produced more than half of the total number of foundations ordered for the 496 MW offshore wind farm.
The production of jacket foundations in Fene is supported by the Navantia-Windar yard in Brest, France.
Offshore construction at the Saint-Brieuc project site is well underway as the installation vessel Aeolus is installing pin piles that will support the jacket foundations.
Earlier this year, the vessel owner Van Oord said the installation of the three-legged jackets at the pre-piled locations was expected to start in the second half of this year, while piling work would be taking place simultaneously until 2023.
The 496 MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm is located 16 kilometers off the northwest coast of France in the Bay of Saint-Brieuc in the English Channel.
The project, developed by Iberdrola’s wholly-owned subsidiary Ailes Marines, is the first large-scale offshore wind farm in Brittany to obtain all the necessary government permits for its construction and operation.
