Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) new offshore wind project in Taiwan, called Taichung Fengmiao, has obtained the recommendation of approval by Taiwan’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) review committee.
This is according to an update shared on social media by a Senior Director at Copenhagen Offshore Partners, a company that executes CIP’s offshore wind projects.
As reported earlier in the Premium section on our sister site Offshore Energy, the project, together with several others preparing for Taiwan’s Round 3, entered the EIA review process earlier this year and saw the first review meeting held by the committee on 15 March.
CIP’s Taichung Fengmiao, situated in the waters off Taichung City, is planned to have an installed capacity of 1,800 MW.
The offshore wind farm would feature turbines of between 9 MW and 20 MW, comprising a minimum of 90 and a maximum of 187 units, depending on which turbine output is ultimately used.
The wind turbines would be installed on top of three- or four-legged jacket foundations.
In Taiwan, CIP is already building the 589 Changfang & Xidao offshore wind farms some 15 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County, which will comprise 62 MHI Vestas 9.5 MW wind turbines.

Offshore construction at the Changfang & Xidao project sites started last year and is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2024, when the wind farms are scheduled to be fully commissioned.
