The Arcadis Ost 1 offshore substation topside has set sail from Bladt Industries’ yard in Aalborg, Denmark towards the Rügen island in the German Baltic Sea.
The Arcadis Ost 1 substation will form the backbone of 50Hertz’s Ostwind 2 offshore grid connection in the German Baltic Sea together with the 500 MW substation for Iberdrola’s Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm.
The Arcadis Ost 1 substation and the accompanying monopile foundation were manufactured and delivered by Blad Industries in partnership with Semco Maritime and ISC Engineering as key partners.

50Hertz did not reveal when exactly the installation of the substation topside at the site some 19 kilometres east of Rügen is expected to take place.
The platform’s monopile foundation was installed by DEME’s Orion last week, marking the start of the offshore construction at the project.

Once installed, the platform will be jointly operated by 50Hertz, the German transmission system operator in charge of the offshore grid connections in the Baltic Sea, and Parkwind, the Belgium-based developer of the Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm.

The 257 MW Arcadis Ost 1 will feature 27 MHI Vestas V174-9.5MW wind turbines scheduled to be installed at the site from June 2022 onward.
Once fully commissioned in 2023, the wind farm will provide enough electricity to cover the needs of up to 300,000 German households.
