SSE Renewables and its ScotWind partners, Marubeni Corporation and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), have selected RPS to carry out Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) for the up to 2.6 GW floating wind project offshore Scotland.

RPS teams based in Edinburgh and Aberdeen are currently leading the offshore consenting and licence activities for SSE Renewables on the Berwick Bank offshore wind farm project in Scotland, and this new project marks a continuation of the strong relationship between our two organisations, the company said.

”We are pleased to be working with SSE Renewables-Marubeni-CIP on this important project, aiming for progress towards net-zero and supporting Scotland’s goals for fixed and floating offshore wind farms,” Nicola Simpson , Technical director, Offshore Wind at RPS, said.

The ScotWind offshore wind leasing process was the first in Scotland in over a decade, with 17 projects selected out of 74 applications.

The development will support the Scottish government’s ambitions of delivering 25 GW of electricity from offshore wind. More than half of this capacity will come from floating offshore wind.

The SSE Renewables-Marubeni-CIP project is in the E1 Zone in the Firth of Forth off the Angus Coast and is one of the largest lease areas offered by Crown Estate Scotland to any bidder in the ScotWind process.

The project is expected to start generating before the end of the decade.
