The installation vessel Bold Tern has left the Port of Taichung in Taiwan loaded with the first sets of turbines for the Changfang & Xidao offshore wind project, according to an update the vessel owner Fred. Olsen Windcarrier posted on social media.
The vessel arrived in Taiwan last month, after undergoing an upgrade at Keppel FELS yard in Singapore which included the installation of a new crane with bigger lifting capacity, as well as additional improvements to the deck space and stability.

The 589 offshore wind project, located some 15 kilometres off the coast of Changhua County, will comprise 62 Vestas 9.5 MW wind turbines.
Offshore construction at the project’s two sites started last year and is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2024, when the wind farms are scheduled to be fully commissioned.
Changfang & Xidao is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), which holds the majority stake, and by two local life insurance companies, Taiwan Life Insurance, and TransGlobe Life Insurance.
