Australian marine services provider MMA Offshore has completed the conversion of its anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel MMA Crystal and reflagged it to support the offshore renewable energy market in Taiwan.
The AHTS, which already worked on an offshore wind project in Taiwan, having supported a pre-installation noise mitigation survey at Formosa 2 last year, has been converted into a multipurpose subsea support vessel earlier this year.
The conversion added a suite of new subsea support services to MMA Crystal including ROV, survey and subsea deployment / lifting capabilities.
After the conversion, MMA Offshore started the reflagging process, which has now been completed.
“This is another milestone in the development of our capability and assets in Taiwan whilst simultaneously building a localised supply chain to support the offshore wind farm market” , MMA Offshore said.
The company said MMA Crystal would shortly begin operations to install a floating LiDAR mooring in Taiwan, followed by a number of geophysical, geotechnical and ROV work scopes in the region.
“With the sustainable development of marine resources at the core of our purpose, we look forward to the MMA Crystal continuing to support the Taiwanese offshore wind market as we continue to grow our capabilities in the region” , the company said.
MMA Offshore entered the offshore wind market in 2020, when it was awarded a contract to support foundation installation at an offshore wind farm project in Taiwan, for which the company deployed its its multipurpose support vessel MMA Vigilant .
At the beginning of last year, the company secured three new offshore wind contracts in Taiwan for the Changhua wind farm, Formosa 2, and Changfang and Xidao.
