Dutch offshore service provider Ampelmann has sold two W-type gangways to the Norwegian shipbuilding company Ulstein Verft.
The electric motion compensation system will be permanently integrated into the newly built Construction Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) that Ulstein Verft is building for the Norway-based Olympic.
The W-type system is height adjustable and can withstand up to 3.5 metres in wave heights, Ampelmann said.
According to the manufacturer, the modular gangway can convert any vessel into a service operation vessel (SOV) or CSOV and is ideally suited for construction, commissioning, and maintenance work on offshore wind farms.
The system features a lift and a gangway that doubles as a crane which is able to transfer both personnel and cargo up to 2,000kg and it also has remote-controlled trolleys that could transport 400kg of equipment across the gangway, Ampelmann said.
The company says that, with this contract, it has sold a total of five W-types in the last four months, with the first system being sold to Olympic Subsea ASA in March this year.

Based on the SX222 design with TWIN-X Stern from Ulstein Design & Solutions, the vessels are planned to be launched in 2024.
The CSOVs have hybrid battery propulsion and are prepared for methanol fuel to enable zero emissions.
With a length of 89.6 metres and a beam of 19.2 metres, the vessels can accommodate 126 people in 91 cabins.
