The 1.5 GW Hollandse Kust Zuid – the world’s first subsidy-free offshore wind farm – has generated first electricity.
While still in their testing phase, the first operating turbines are already producing electricity, which is transferred to shore via an offshore transformation station and fed into the Dutch grid.
Hollandse Kust Zuid is located in the Dutch North Sea about 18-35 kilometers off the coast between The Hague and Zandvoort.
The wind farm is owned by Vattenfall, BASF , and Allianz . Vattenfall is leading the development of the project.
So far, 36 turbines have been installed. The wind turbines are being transported from Sif’s facility at Maasvlakte 2 in the Port of Rotterdam and installed by Cadeler’s wind turbine installation vessel – Wind Osprey . The turbine installation campaign is expected to be completed by March 2023.
When fully operational in 2023, Hollandse Kust Zuid will be the largest subsidy-free offshore wind farm in the world, comprising 140 Siemens Gamesa 11.0-200 DD wind turbines.
