Dominion Energy has signed a contract with the Danish software company Systematic for a marine management tool that the developer will deploy on its 2.6 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in the US.
Under the contract, Systematic will supply its software, called SITE, to manage logistics and safety compliance of the personnel working in and around the 112,800-acre commercial lease area.
SITE is a cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solution for planning transfers to and from offshore wind farms, providing a situational overview for location tracking and monitoring the location of personnel working offshore.
The software ensures process efficiency and delivers the data needed to optimise offshore operations during the construction and operations and maintenance (O&M) phase, Systematic said.
Some other leading offshore operators that have chosen Systematic’s SITE software include RWE Renewables , Vattenfall, Copenhagen Offshore Partners, and Ørsted .
CVOW is located approximately 43 kilometers off the coast of Virginia Beach. Yesterday, Dominion Energy received approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission for its offshore wind project.
The 2.6 GW CVOW is the commercial-scale project that is planned to be built using the knowledge and experience gained through the CVOW pilot project which brought the first two wind turbines to the US federal waters.

The commercial-scale offshore wind farms will comprise 176 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW wind turbines with the installation scheduled to begin in 2024. Once completed in 2026, CVOW will provide enough clean energy to power up to 660,000 homes per year.
