Scottish Company Awarded Vattenfall Offshore O&M Contract

Scotland-headquartered PD&MS Group has secured a three-year operations and maintenance (O&M) contract with Vattenfall to support its European offshore wind portfolio for an undisclosed sum.

The contract, which also has options to extend for a further two-year period, will see the international engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) specialist provide a wide range of support for the developer’s offshore wind farms in the UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark.

PD&MS said the award builds on its success in delivering multiple onshore and offshore wind projects for its customers, including SSE Renewables and Moray East offshore wind farm.

“We are thrilled that Vattenfall has recognised our highly transferable skills gained from years of successfully operating across oil and gas and other energy sectors and chosen us as one of their long-term service providers. This new contract solidifies PD&MS’ position as a key supplier for future wind developments, such as ScotWind and other future European projects”, said Thomas Barter , Head of Renewables Business Development at PD&MS.

Vattenfall, one of the leading players in the offshore wind industry, has several major wind projects in its portfolio. In Denmark, the company owns the 604 MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm, among others, which was officially opened in September 2021.

A few months ago, the company bought a majority stake in two offshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 2.8 GW located off the coast of Gothenburg, Sweden, from the wind power firm Zephyr.

In the UK, Vattenfall is developing the Aberdeen offshore wind farm and planning the construction of the Norfolk Zone wind farms that comprises Norfolk Vanguard and Norfolk Boreas.

Vattenfall is also developing the 1.5 GW Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm in the Netherlands which is the first and largest offshore wind project in the world to be developed without subsidy.
