Semco Maritime, PTSC M&C Start Working on Hai Long Offshore Substations

After being awarded a preferred supplier agreement for two offshore substations for the Hai Long 2 and Hai Long 3 wind farms last year, the consortium consisting of Semco Maritime and PTSC M&C has now signed the EPC contract and initiated the execution of the project.

The consortium, supported by primary sub-contractor ISC Consulting Engineers, will now proceed with the detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the two offshore substations including jackets, which will be fabricated at PTSC M&C’s yard in Vungtau City, Southern Vietnam.

After entering the preferred supplier agreement in October 2021, Semco Maritime said that this was the largest offshore substation contract awarded for a Taiwanese project and that it also marked the consortium partners’ entrance into the Taiwanese offshore wind market.

Offshore installation is planned for 2024 and the completion of commissioning for 2026, when the last phase of the 1,044 MW Hai Long Offshore Wind Project is scheduled to be ready for operation.

The project, located in the Taiwan Strait, around 50 kilometres off the coast of Changhua county, has three separate grid allocations: the 300 MW Hai Long 2A, the 232 MW Hai Long 2B, and the 512 MW Hai Long 3.

The offshore wind farms, jointly developed by Northland Power Inc., Yushan Energy Pte. Ltd., and Mitsui & Co., Ltd., are expected to power 1.55 million households in Taiwan, once fully up and running in 2026.
