K2 Management has been hired as technical advisor on the Goto floating wind farm in Japan, the country’s first commercial scale floating wind farm.
The Goto Floating Wind Farm LLC Consortium – comprising Toda Corporation, Eneos Corporation, Osaka Gas, Inpex Corporation, Kansai Electric Power, and Chubu Electric Power – was selected last year as the winner of Japan’s first offshore wind auction since the Renewable Sea Area Utilization Law came into power in April 2019.
The 16.8 MW project is set to be built off the shore of Goto City, Nagasaki Prefecture, with the construction expected to begin later this year and commissioning set for 2024.
The wind farm will feature eight Hitachi 2.1 MW wind turbines installed on hybrid spar type, three-point mooring floating foundations.
For the project, K2 Management will provide pre-construction technical due diligence on all technical aspects of the project, with a particular emphasis on the risks associated with floating wind technology and the Japanese market.

According to the company, K2 Management has supported investors, developers, and lenders on Japanese offshore wind projects with a total intended capacity of more than 4.5 GW, at various stages of development, in the last two years.
