Ocean Winds has signed a multi-million-pound contract with the Scottish fabricator Global Energy Group (GEG) to supply secondary foundation elements for the Moray West wind farm offshore Scotland.
Under the contract, GEG will manufacture and transport two J-tube frames that will be attached to the two foundations holding the offshore substation platforms.

The frames will be approximately 37 metres in length and eleven metres in diameter and will support the steel tubes that will protect the cables coming into the substations from the wind turbines as well as the cable exporting the power to the shore.
GEG will fabricate the J-tubes at the quayside fabrication facilities at the Port of Nigg in the Cromarty Firth which is also the place from where the turbines will be pre-assembled and shipped.
The contract boosts fabrication capability in Scotland to supply the growing sector, including future Ocean Winds projects, the developer said.
The Moray West offshore wind farm is located in the Moray Firth, approximately 22.5 kilometres from the Caithness coastline.
The development will be comprised of 60 Siemens Gamesa 14.7 MW wind turbines with an installed capacity of 882 MW.
Last month, Seaway 7 signed a Letter of Award with Moray Offshore Windfarm (West) Limited to start early works on the Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning (EPIC) of inter-array grid cables for the offshore wind project.
Moray West secured a Contract for Difference (CfD) as part of the UK Government’s latest CfD Allocation Round.
The offshore wind farm is developed and majority-owned by Ocean Winds, with Lithuania’s Ignitis Group holding a minority share in the project.
