Inch Cape Opts for Vestas 15 MW Offshore Wind Turbines

Inch Cape Offshore Limited (ICOL), a joint venture between Red Rock Power Limited and ESB, has appointed Vestas as the preferred wind turbine supplier for the 1.1 GW Inch Cape wind farm offshore Scotland.

Located 15 kilometres off the Angus coast in the East of Scotland, the Inch Cape offshore wind project will feature 72 V236-15.0 MW turbines.

The wind turbine model will soon be installed for demonstration, with the nacelle for the 15 MW turbine recently completed at Vestas’s nacelle factory in Denmark.

ICOL initially planned to use wind turbines with a rated capacity of 9.5 MW but with the removal of the 1 GW capacity cap which occurred in August 2021 the developer was able to select the most powerful turbines on the market.

The developer secured a contract for difference in the UK’s fourth CfD allocation round, which concluded in July.

The offshore wind farm will be Scotland’s largest single source of renewable power when built, generating the equivalent of the annual demand of more than one million homes, according to ICOL.

Port of Dundee was selected as the pre-assembly and marshalling site for the construction of the wind farm while Montrose Port is the project’s operations and maintenance (O&M) base.
