Atlantique Offshore Energy, a marine business unit of Chantiers de l’Atlantique, has been contracted to design, manufacture, and commission the offshore substation topsides for Yeu-Noirmoutier and Dieppe Le Tréport wind projects offshore France.
Éoliennes en Mer Îles d’Yeu et de Noirmoutier (EMYN) and Eoliennes en Mer Dieppe Le Tréport (EMDT), a consortium of Ocean Winds, Sumitomo and Banque des Territoires (as well as Vendée Energie for EMYN), awarded the contract to the Chantiers de l’Atlantique subsidiary.
Engineering works can now begin while the installation of the offshore substations is planned for 2024 and 2025, respectively.

The 2,500-tonne substation topsides will collect and transform the electricity produced by wind turbines and deliver it to the French national grid while ensuring remote control of the offshore wind farms.
Each project will feature 62 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines scheduled to be commissioned by 2025.
In July, Ocean Winds confirmed a capacity reservation agreement with Spain’s Navantia to build two jacket-type foundations and the associated piles for the wind farms’ substations.
The jackets will be built at the Navantia shipyard in Puerto Real in Cádiz.
With a capacity of 496 MW each, the Dieppe-Le Tréport and Yeu-Noirmoutier offshore wind farms were selected in France’s second tendering round back in 2014 and were approved for operation in 2018.
