Switzerland-headquartered ABB and TECO Electric & Machinery have signed a letter of intent for jointly tapping the Taiwanese market for offshore wind substations.
Both parties will form a competitive team, developing complete solutions for offshore substation-related equipment and engineering, to foster the local offshore wind industry, TECO said.
Since 2019, TECO has undertaken onshore substation projects with a total installed capacity of about 2 GW for offshore wind farms under development in Taiwan, taking 35 per cent of the Taiwan market, said Chang Sung-pin, president of TECO’s smart energy business group.
Under the agreement, TECO will provide equipment such as gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), spare generators, and a pre-fitting electric equipment room (E-House).
In addition, TECO said that the collaborative E-House solution will be applied to internet data centres (IDCs) to optimise their power consumption efficiency via energy storage and energy management systems.
When it comes to ABB, the company will contribute its expertise in the design and supply of electricity, monitoring and data collection, automation, and telecommunications equipment, as well as the installation, operation, and maintenance of such equipment.
“The joint venture will contribute significantly to the generation and transmission of offshore wind power and thus the goal of net zero-emission energy. The partnership will support our aspiration to become a leader for green-energy transformation, offering the market offshore substation solution with excellent design and engineering quality”, said Anders Maltesen , senior vice president of Asian region, ABB energy industry division.
ABB is a company mainly operating in robotics, power, heavy electrical equipment, and automation technology areas.
