Siemens Gamesa Installs Nacelle on Prototype Turbine in Denmark

Siemens Gamesa prototype nacelle for SG 14-236 DD being lifted

Shortly after installing the towers for the SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbine prototype at the test center for large wind turbines in Oesterild, Denmark, Siemens Gamesa has placed the nacelle at the top of the tower – an exercise known as ‘the big lift’, the company wrote in an update on social media.

The nacelle started its journey to the test site earlier this month and the company started installing the tower only a few days ago.

The SG 14-236 turbine, based on Siemens Gamesa’s existing SG 14-222 DD model, will be able to reach a capacity of 15 MW.

Next up in the installation sequence are the rotor hub and blades, with the latter being 115-metre B115 blades based on the IntegralBlade® technology produced in Aalborg.

The 236-metre rotor will enable the SG 14-236 DD to produce more than 30 per cent Annual Energy Production (AEP) compared to the SG 11.0-200 DD, according to Siemens Gamesa.

The SG 14-236 DD model will be commercially available in 2024 and has so far been selected as a preferred option for the Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas wind farms offshore the UK, as well as for the MFW Bałtyk II and MFW Bałtyk III wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea.
